Carryon liquids must now be in 3oz size plastic bottles due to new security measures implemented by the Transportation Security Administration, or otherwise known as TSA.

The easiest way to remember is their 3-1-1 for Carry-on's rule = 3 ounce bottles or less,
1 quart sized, clear zip-top plastic bag, 1 bag per passenger that will be placed in the screening bin. Airport rules make compliance necessary.

If you need more than 3 oz, then just place it in your checked luggage, however, keep in mind that that just means more hassle and time waiting for your luggage with everyone else at the baggage claim area. Of course, as long as they do not lose your luggage!
If you need something at your destination, then place it in the clear bag and carry it on!

There are some exceptions where you can declare your larger liquids to the security officer; such as prescription medication, baby formula and milk (when traveling with an infant or toddler, which does not need to be in a 3 oz bag.)
